Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie is wearing strictly Nigerian brands and she’s documenting the journey on Instagram

Good times are here for the #BuyNaijatogrowtheNaira campaign as acclaimed Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie has declared her commitment to wearing only Nigerian clothing brands for her public appearances.

Adichie made the announcement in a recent Facebook post where she blamed “the Nigerian government’s disastrous economic policies” for a “reduction in the value of the naira hence disposable income, the disorientation of the middle class and a debilitating sense of uncertainty“. She however stated that the #BuyNigeria rhetoric is the silver lining in Nigeria’s dark clouds.

Adichie who has been a steady source of inspiration for stylish women will be documenting her “Wear Nigeria” campaign on an Instagram page recently opened and managed by her nieces, Chisom and Amaka.

The author believes that although she’s had to deal with a “few dodgy zippers and poor quality fabrics“, she’s been impressed by “some detail-oriented finishing”. For her, “the makers of the clothes, from designer to tailor to button-fixer to okada-delivery-person deserve to be supported“.
