How to make your adult acne disappear forever

Imagine the horrors of going through your teenage years as team captain of the #Flawless club only to hit 30 and suddenly you are breaking out like a 15 year old.

Imagine struggling with acne through out secondary school and finally getting rid of it when you turn 18, only for it to make an unwelcome return as you turn 25 (the peak of your baby girl years.)

At this point, acne should be the very last thing you should have to deal with. Well the good news is you are not alone. Adult acne is actually quite common and there are tons of ways to get rid of it.

Let us look at the causes first though.

  1. Pregnancy
If you start breaking out unexpectedly, especially after you got the love with no glove, it might be a sign that there is a bun in the oven.

  2. You changed your pill.
Switching birth controls messes with your hormones most times. If you just changed your pill you may be prone to breakouts.
  3. Periods.
These are almost a sure cause. Just like the yellow traffic light telling you to get ready for that time of the month.
  4. You just got on the pill.
First of all you smart. Getting on the pill always causes some body changes, either a little added weight or for the lucky ones, clearer skin, but for the less lucky ones you might be prone to acne.
  5. Stress
New job? New boyfriend? Or something new in your life that is stressing the hell out of you might also result in adult acne.

If you are completely unbothered about it, you can wait it out and it might clear up eventually depending on the cause. If its driving you completely nuts on the other hand, try out these.

  1. Change your beauty routine.
People often tell you not to change your beauty routine whenever you begin breaking out unexpectedly but that’s a myth. In reality changing your usual routine might help you fight it.
  2. Switch to water based makeup products.
Most of our makeup is oil based, and that tends to clog our pores. Switching to water based makeup might be more expensive but its way better for your skin in the long run.
  3. Drink a shit ton of water
Like a lotttt. You might think you are getting enough water in but you are probably not. Try drink the equivalent of 5 (75cl) bottles of Eva water everyday. I know it seems like a lot, but it works wonders on your skin.

  4. Change your diet.
Nigerians don’t like hearing these words especially since our diet consists mainly of rice and swallow. So for most people right now, they are thinking change to what? Cut out processed sugars (ijeku je) and cut down on the groundnut oil for starters. Check back next week for a more detailed (realistic) diet plan for us Nigerians.
