How to wear: Sporty chic

With the rising popularity of style mavens like Rihanna, Alexa Chung and Seyi Shay who dabble in luxury street wear to give their fashion an edge, the sporty chic look has become increasingly popular. So if you want to find a way to let your inner tomboy free while staying pretty and stylish, here are a few tips and tricks.

Invest in a good pair of sneakers.

Nothing like a good pair of sneakers to dress down a girly look. There are so many sneaker style options that even the most skeptical of women will find something that works for them. For the uninitiated, converse sneakers are a good way to start, and for those in the know like Seyi Shay, hi-top Nikes are the way to go.

Tailored sweat pants.
The sweat suit has gone through a major evolution in the last three seasons. The extra fabric and the slouch is gone, replaced by svelte tailoring and sleek silhouettes that have turned sweat suits from something for your bedroom to pieces you can wear in the board room. Nigerian luxe streetwear line, Sanusi Lagos has many options for the girl looking to buy herself a few tailored sweats.

Baseball hat.

Nothing says sporty chic like a baseball hat. It immediately gives even the girliest look a bit of an edge without being too obstrusive. There are several interesting Nigerian brands with baseball hats but our favorite are the hats with brass motifs of precolonial Nigerian masks from 24 apparel.

Tailored jeans. (House of Deola Deo jeans)

Investing in a pair of tailored high end jeans is a must if you want to channel that sporty chic vibe properly. High end tailored jeans are made from the best denim and the distinctive brands are the equivalent of wearing a Chanel bag. So why not splurge a bit? Deo Jeans from the House of Deola has some amazing offerings, and would be a good place to start.
