Awesome photos from Shayzon & Michael’s intimate wedding in Atlanta

Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the best days of your life. Everything from the planning, flowers, guest-lists, decor, the wedding dress, and most importantly the pictures, have to be perfect. Unfortunately for Shayzon, everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong on her wedding day 14 years ago.

The bride told the florist her only request for her bouquet was that she not use any baby’s breath. The day of the wedding her bouquet was delivered and made entirely of baby’s breath. The photographer spent quite a significant amount of time taking pictures at the ceremony so by the time Shayzon and Michael made it to the reception, guests had already eaten and they only had time to have one dance before the venue announced it was time for them to leave. And about the pictures they did have, they were either unfocused or taken so far away it was hard to decipher who was actually in the photos. Their first wedding was a disaster to say the least.

However, 14 years and two gorgeous children later, the couple decided to make it right this time. In this small intimate blush Atlanta wedding, it was a chance of redemption to do her wedding the right way.

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
“Michael and I met while I was on vacation in New York. I met his sister in college a few years prior in Miami and because I shared my plan of relocating to New York for school she recommended that I meet up with her brother there. While I was in New York he would recommend and show me a few neighborhoods that I could consider while apartment hunting. That initial meeting turned into numerous long distance phone calls. Those phone calls led to a couple of visits to Florida, which led to Michael relocating from New York to Ft. Lauderdale. One after another all those things led to us getting married eleven months after we met!”

THE PROPOSAL: “Michael and I have a great love for New York City! He invited me to meet up with him after work and he told me that we were going to have an evening out on the town. We took a cab ride through the city and Central Park. We ended up at Tavern On The Green, a restaurant in the park. He already had reservations made and we had a great dinner! Afterwards, he suggested a walk through the restaurant’s courtyard. I didn’t realize the courtyard was actually being seen by everyone that was dining in the restaurant. I was completely distracted by the lights they had outside and then Michael told me to look up at the stars. And when I did, there was his hand held up high with an opened ring box and a beautiful ring. I was so shocked and super duper excited! Michael gave me the biggest hug and then asked me if I would share the rest of my life with him. My response was a definite YES!”

Wedding Style:
“My wedding dress was a blush Vera Wang strapless gown with champagne and gold threading throughout the bodice accented with a beautiful bow. The skirt was full with layers and layers of tulle and a very long train. It was the perfect dress and made me feel like a princess!”

“I had the best time shopping for my dress. I bought two dresses. The first dress was safe and what I knew everyone would have been expecting but the second dress was exactly what I wanted. I knew and stuck with what was flattering to my shape and what fit my personality which made the illumination process quick and easy. The only person that was with me and knew all the details about everything that was going was my daughter, London.”

Culture:
“We incorporated a Sand Pouring Ceremony into the wedding. It was a symbol of blending together all the fibers of our lives and becoming one. What made this so special for us this time around, is that we used the sand we collected fifteen years ago on our honeymoon for the ceremony. The Sand Pouring Ceremony is a symbol of our commitment to continue blending our lives together on our journey to forever.”

Help a bride-to-be out!
“My best advice to engaged couples is to be very selective with the vendors and planners that you work with. Be sure that your personalities connect and that you’re on the same page with your vision. The planning process and experience can and should be just as pleasant and memorable as your big day. And oh yes, definitely plan for videography in your budget. Many times we scratch that to save, but we realized how valuable it was when we didn’t have it after our first time around. It’s the only thing you’ll have after everything is over that keeps the details, mood, emotions, and feelings of every moment alive for you, for years beyond the big day.”
