Sarah Christian’s new collection aims for a sleek bridal look

Ghanaian womenswear label Sarah Christian has made a name for itself in the Ghanaian evening wear market with its interesting design and dedication towards creating glamorous looks for women with sleek, uncluttered silhouettes. Their last collection, Monter en Fleche moved significantly into day wear pieces with peplumed bustiers and halter strapped blouses with African inspired wax print inserts, a move that opened the label up to more demographics of women but proved seriously detrimental to the cohesiveness of the collection itself. Compared to their debut collection, Monter en Fleche, was a gamble that didn’t quite pay off, but alternately proved that Sarah Christian isn’t a one trick pony.

For the new collection, Sarah Christian doubles down and truly embraces the evening wear tag, leaving the high street tag for more contentious brands. Instead, the label turns toward bridal fashion for its inspirations, creating a collection of beautiful if somewhat understated evening gowns. Circle skirts dominate the collection draping around the lower half of the model, pooling around her feet, waists are defined with belts made from pearls, contrast fabric and leather.

Tulle, embroidery and extensive beading provide much needed texture to the otherwise simple silhouettes. While we wish there was more experimentation in this collection like there was in Monter en Fleche, we appreciate the restraint Sarah Christian shows in this collection, simplicity always wins out.
