Seyi Shay is shaping up to become a style sensation to be afraid of

When in October 2017, award-winning pop singer, Seyi Shay pulled down her Instagram account to start afresh, we had no clues what she had in store – or style warehouse, for the sake of this post.

The caption that accompanied the first post on the fresh page read, “They say a ‘woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life…” and true to her assertion, Seyi Shay has not only changed her life but is changing all of us too.

We may have loved the “Right now” singer for her catchy lyrics, her animated stage presence and her daring looks in music videos but now, Seyi Shay is shaping up to be a style sensation we’ll be making reference to for a long time.

With Seyi Shay’s reemergence on Instagram came the debut of a new haircut, a new website, new music projects, a fashion editorial on Schick Magazine where she showcased designs from the Spring Summer 18 collections of three of Nigeria’s progressive designers – Moofa, Gozel Green and DNA by Iconic Invanity.

At the time, the singer who is signed to UK’s Island Records told Schick Magazine, “I like to keep it fresh and young but still unique to me and I feel like me cutting my hair really fits well with the direction that we are moving into with my style“.

True to her words, Seyi Shay is clearly on a new style journey and her travel partner is New York-based womenswear and accessories designer, Sukeina. She has chosen a number of figure-fitting, tongue-wagging and more importantly, daring pieces from Sukeina’s racks and she’s wearing them so well we can’t help but talk about it.

The first we saw was the Baguette Coco dress Seyi Shay wore on a date night in New York that got fans and friends demanding where she hid her underwear. The see-through number featured fringe details that were sparingly tacked on the front leaving the back to draw public attention. It costs $2,795.

Then she went on to receive her NEA Awards in the brand’s three-quarter Chandelier dress that also features mesh and fringe and cost only $20 lesser than the first.

When we thought she was done stunning us, Seyi Shay showed off another Sukeina dress, this time in the brightest colour we’ve seen her wear in recent times – LIME.

We may be able to safely predict that from here, Seyi Shay who has been always been in a class of her own, will be challenging all your favourite Nigerian fashionistas to a race for their dollars. We’ll be here for that!
