The gentleman’s style guide for attending weddings in Lagos

Lagosians love weddings, or at least the wedding receptions anyway. These days there are even after parties to the after party of the reception. In case you’ve been doing it wrong, this is the ultimate style guide for men attending weddings in Lagos.

  1. You can never go wrong with white native. When in doubt about what to wear to a wedding, ask your tailor to hook you up with an agbada, or a simple sokoto and jumper made from white Atiku fabric. Make sure it’s properly starched and ironed before the wedding.

  2. If you are tired of wearing native, maybe you’ve worn it to the past 5 weddings you’ve attended, you can opt for a nice blazer, paired with well tailored pants. Wearing a tux might look a little too stuffy by the time the receptions turns into Quilox.

  3. You could go without a blazer and wear a nice dress shirt with tailored pants. Never pair it with jeans, it’s still a wedding you are attending, it’s not club.

  4. A casual suit can also take you from the wedding to the reception, to the after party. You could wear it with a nice tie or bow tie, or go without any of the two.
