Thigh-high slits, ball gowns and mono-strap: See the most stylish looks from #AMVCA2017

The AMVCA 2017 has ended and we are left with the fashion memories.

From Rita Dominic’s gold monostrap dress by Lanre DaSilva Ajayi to Osas Ajibade’s Wana Sambo stunner to Adesua Etomi’s flowery Mai Atafo dress, we took note of the trends on the AMVCA red carpet this year.

It’s fascinating to see that the most stylish dresses from the event are all made by Nigerian designers. There was Mai Atafo, Fablane by Derin, Wana Sambo, Zizi Cardow and Weiz Dhurm Franklyn.

The fashion at the AMVCAs reminds us that Nigeria’s fashion industry has gone beyond ‘budding’ and is now set to take on the world.

THE BALL GOWNS

Singer and actress, Toni Tones had this winning, heavy-ruffle, princess ball dress hand-made in the four months that led up to last night’s event. It turned out every sweat that went into getting this dress done was worth it as she literally stole the red carpet. Trust that she will be topping all the best-dressed lists this season. Thanks to designer, Yemi Shoyemi for all the work.

Ghanaian actress, Nana Akua Addo wore international designer, Almodal Haute Couture. The gold masterpiece stood out as the most prominent ball gown on the AMVCA red carpet.

Inidima Okojie looks like royalty in this lilac ball dress by upcoming designer, Fablane by Derin. The earrings, statement bag and pose complete the look.

Let’s not even lie, we didn’t see Toyin Abraham coming at all. We were totally awe-struck when she showed up in strapless lace ballgown paired with gold accessories. For many last night, she was the best-dressed.

Kehinde Bankole returned this year to remind us that she’s a winner on the red carpet. We remember that last year’s dress was a miss so what better way to recover than a strapless black dress and a black clutch that says nothing more than ‘fabolous’.

THIGH-HIGH SLITS

Original, bold, daring, sexy are some of the words that describe this look. For those who weren’t convinced before now, Somkele Idhalama has just re-registered herself as a style icon in Nigeria. The dress was designed by the Andrea Iyamah brand.

Slaying for the third year in a row! We looked forward to Osas Ajibade on the red carpet and she didn’t fail us. This Wana Sambo dress with its thigh-high slit is too gorgeous for words. And we see how she accentuates with the sexy underwear. Yasssssss!!!

All gold everything by Ayo Van Elmar! Funke Akindele‘s slit didn’t reveal too much but it worked. It totally worked. She looked stunning.

Bolanle Olukanni made it to the afterparty in green velvet bandeau dress with a peplum. What is most appealing is how striking the dress is despite its seeming simplicity. The heavy neckpiece finished off the look just right.

Wofa Ifada came for the thigh attention and to be honest, she got it in this sequined gold dress.

Talk show host, Idia Aisien‘s look is one of the most fab of the night. A plunging neckline and high slit is never too much. The dress is by Nigerian designer, Agatha Moreno.

MONOSTRAP

Oh dear Rita! She may not have outdone her looks from past years but can we all give it up to Lanre DaSilva Ajayi for putting this gold beauty together. From shoulder to waist, the dress sits on Rita Dominic so beautifully.
