Virgo Apparels find star power to sell it’s SS17 ‘Tiffany’ collection.

Virgo Apparels (not be confused with UK based British Nigerian vintage label Virgo’s Lounge) is out to carve itself a niche in the Nigerian cocktail/evening wear market with it’s Spring 17 collection ‘Tiffany’. And to show us just what kind of collection Tiffany is, they’ve enlisted the help of an honest-to-goodness beauty Queen, former Miss Nigeria Anna Banner.

It’s almost a proper trend now this season to enlist the help of a celebrity to help sell collections and shape the perceptions around the new work, and Banner plays excellently to the strengths of the new Virgo Apparels collection. the label takes many of the season’s big trends and puts their subtle spin on them. A retro print off shoulder blouse is held up with silk ties. Decolettage peeks over the scalloped hem of a black evening dress with a stream of embroidered floral appliques that frame it’s flared skirt. There are day shorts, wide leg pants and culottes, puff sleeves, demure dresses broken up with technicolor skirting. There is a lot going on and much of it is done well enough that it is pleasing to the eye.

However, there isn’t much cohesion in the collection, or much original thought. From a more established designer we could consider this damning, but Virgo Apparels choice of Anna Banner helps us overlook this and see the collection as a proper wardrobe for a busy millennial, rather than a proper thought out, cohesive collection.

It’s great, but just maybe Virgo Apparels would thrive more in fast fashion than proper design.
