It is a little overwhelming to consider that Bishme R. Cromartie, the African American creative director behind this eponymous brand is only 23. It is even more impressive to note that he has always designed, even as a child, and had his very first proper fashion showcase in 2007 at the age of 16. With six years of proper design experience behind him and not an ounce of formal training, the African American designer continues to impress with his attention to detail and his focus on aesthetic and expanding possibilities in fashion.
The designer recently released images from his Fall 2016 collection, an offering of dramatic cape dresses and padded jackets, extensive pleating and thigh high slits, all done in luminous fabrics and resplendent velvet. The idea of wrapping pieces and slit is central to the collection and how to achieve this kind of volume without weighing down the silhouette is something Cromartie seems to be proficient in. Each piece Cromartie touches in this collection exudes a kind of glamour that is hard to replicate or reproduce.
This kind of approach to design excites us and we just had to share. We cannot wait to see the rest of the collection.
