Kumasi Fashion Week 2016: TroTro Creations is a bit much

TroTro creations’ contribution to the Kumasi Fashion Week runway can be aptly described in one word; excess.

This is evident in the knee-length beaded jewellery that hang from the model’s necks, the amount of skin left exposed, the bright colours and mismatched prints. Even the designs celebrate excess, the simplest of pieces are tacked on and emblazoned with fringe, beading and embroidery.

Distracting as it may be to an audience used to clean silhouettes and clean cut construction, Trotro creations actually mirrors the vibrancy and compartmentalized chaos that is synoymous with automated rickshaws  (referred to as tro-tro in Ghana) from which the label derives it’s name.

Trotro creations accessories are its true coup this season, its ankara panelled back, it’s necklaces and purses can all make the shift from runway to store shelf with minimal effort, but the clothes might require some refining before they are ready to become a staple of someone’s life.
