Look Book: Vonne SS16 riffs off tribal elements

Yvonne Nwosu of Vonne Couture is starting 2016 on quite the high.

First she opened her flagship store in Victoria Island with quiet fete, and announced that she was launching a diffusion line, one that several celebrities were already publicly endorsing. Now, we get our first glimpse of the Vonne diffusion line’s debut collection for Spring 2016.

The collection experiments with panelling and layering. Skirts are layered on top of each other, either as peplums or whole separates. worn with aprons and wrap shirts that split at the empire line and expose the midriff, Wide leg pants also populate this collection as well as jersey tube dresses done in neon colours. Then there are the colour blocked shift shirts with asymmetric hems that can be repurposed as dresses and sheer sheaths in black and white. Pleating, runching, layering, it all seems to be happening in this collection and somehow managing pretty well.

There are a lot of tribal elements in the new collection; in the prints and the centre point of the collection a print of a hyper-stylized mask that is oddly familiar. We can only hope that this art was actually commissioned by Nwosu for the collection otherwise it would be quite the twist if an independent artist were to come claim ownership of the art. But besides that Yvonne presents a collection that seems well made, and will flatter the woman who isn’t afraid to go a little risque.
