Nigerian couple in diaspora, Motunrayo and Ayodeji, who recently got engaged will be getting married on the 4th Sept 2016.

The surprise engagement happened in Vegas during thanksgiving.

We spent Thanksgiving with my family in LA and had planned to have fun in Vegas for one night. Before we traveled, we talked about watching a cirque du Soleil show (Michael Jackson or Jabbawockeez). I was undecided on which to see and Ayo said he would surprise me with one.  We drove from LA to Vegas on Saturday morning, as we got to the hotel suite (The Venetian, by the way!), he mentioned that we were scheduled to go on a gondola ride first before the show.

First off, I noticed that it was just the two of us on the ride (it usually takes 4 people), but then didn’t pay much attention to it. Whilst on the ride, I started taking pictures and recording videos (as you do!) and all the while we were talking about how beautiful the scenery was (the gondola ride had a Venice Italia feel to it).

As we neared the end of the ride, Ayodeji got up and then went down on one knee and I was like ‘OMG!! is this really happening?’ He started to saythe sweetest things ever and asked me to be his wife. I was crying and didn’t even notice that I hadn’t said yes, until I heard him ask, ‘Is that a yes or no answer?’ I don’t remember, but I was like “Yes, yes, yes!

Tears flowed from my eyes, and behind me, among others watching us from the top, was my bff, Tosin. I had no idea she was coming to Vegas!

We headed back to shore shortly afterwards and as  we got off the ride, I saw his cousin and her husband and some of my other friends who I hadn’t expected to be in Vegas too, (how Ayo pulled it off, I don’t know!)

We finished off back at the hotel with almost an hour of photo shoot, some drinks and an engagement cake, it was just so surreal, best thanksgiving ever! Ayo always knew the type of grand, elegant and classy proposal I wanted so he planned having it at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas (one of the best hotels in Vegas).  It was a surprise…well there were last minute hints here and there but I had no idea it was happening on thanksgiving weekend as we had planned to spend it in Los Angeles with my family and friends and just head down to Vegas for a day of fun.

He thought of all sorts of grand ways to accomplish the proposal because he knew what I wanted. He knew my friends and family being there was quite important to me so he had to find a way of bringing the two elements together, which he did. He gained top marks by proposing at such an elegant location in Las Vegas and inviting friends from LA to be part of our special moment. I guess the expression ‘go big or go home’ is such an apt way to describe his efforts, ha ha!
