Nipo Skin’s Eden is the most original SS16 collection we’ve seen this season

We first encountered Ghanaian luxury label Nipo Skin at the 2016 Kumasi Fashion week where the label collaborated with premium fabric maker Da Viva for a menswear collection that received mixed reviews.

On the heels of it’s showcase at the Kumasi Fashion Week, the label has turned attention to its women’s wear line, releasing ‘Eden’, the Spring 16 collection. The new collection is inspired by and named for the label’s home city Kumasi. Kumasi is known as the ‘garden city’ and Nipo Skin plays on this, creating a visual tableau of clothing that is an homage to the city.

But what makes this collection sensational is the level of skill that the people behind Nipo Skin show on this collection. They offer some of the finest ruching we’ve seen in a while on a button up pencil skirt with fuschia placket detailing, shown with a pocked backless white blouse with hand sewn three dimensional flowers sewn into sleeves.

There is so much detail in this single look that it should not work, but it does. Beaded off-shoulder blouses flare out into brightly hued, layered abstract print full skirts. Evening dresses with pocking and asymmetric fins, off shoulder high-low blouses with contrast piping paired with floral boy shorts with uneven hems. They offer so many textures, so many options, lace, velcro, chiffon, cotton, art silk, its is overwhelming in the best possible ways.

This is easily the most original collection we’ve seen out of Ghana, nay, West Africa in a long time. Nipo Skin solidifies its claim to the luxury brand with this collection, that shows excellence in craftsmanship and a myriad original ideas executed perfectly. We hope this collection gains all the attention it deserves, it is glorious.
