Review: I’m in love with the cocoa

I’m talking about good old Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula, which I have discovered is probably the most underrated moisturiser in the world.

A lot of people actually grew up using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, myself included. I remember loving the smell, but I was too young to know whether or not it was really a good moisturiser, to me it was just cream. A while ago, when I went beauty shopping, I bought a bottle of the lotion just because I was feeling a little nostalgic, and then ended up never using it.

One morning last week, I realized a little too late that I had gotten to the bottom of the bottle of my regular Neutrogena moisturizer, -which is also great by the way. I ended up using the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter that morning, with the intent of replacing my regular moisturiser later in the day. Well it’s been a full week now, and I still haven’t replaced my regular moisturiser.

Let me explain why I have fallen in love with Palmer’s Cocoa Butter in just a week.

First of all I love the smell. It has a nice chocolatey smell some people might find overwhelming but it just makes me hungry. It’s also very moisturising, you can literally feel the difference between it and other moisturisers on your skin, just after a couple of uses, and it doesn’t leave a greasy layer on skin after you use it like most moisturisers you might find at the same price.

Did I mention that it’s really cheap? It’s about 2,500 naira in most stores, and has a really thick consistency so that you could buy a bottle and probably use it for like a year. Palmer’s biggest selling point for me is that it costs a fraction of other high end moisturisers which do pretty much the same job it does -even better sometimes.

The only problem I have with this lotion is that it doesn’t have any SPF, which means I have to combine it with a sunscreen on most days and Lagos is just too hot for all that wahala. So I’m going to stop using it for now, because I don’t understand why the sun is so close to us these days. But on rainy days where the sun decides to show some mercy, this will always be my first choice of moisturisers.

  1. You are right. I actually visited a friend and after my morning bath, I applied my friend’s cream (Palmer’s Cocoa Butter) as I did not come with my toiletries and I felt different. I did not experience that sticky sweaty feeling which I usually experience with my own body cream. I had to search for the cream that same day. That Palmer’s Cocoa Butter is really really good.
