For it’s pre-spring issue, V Magazine, celebrates three fashion icons who pay tribute to two of their fashion icons. Lady Gaga guest edits issue 99, curating her “Fashion Guard” with the help of noted heiress Daphne Guinness and photographer Steven Klein.
Klein shot Gaga and Guinness in pieces from the heiress’s Alexander McQueen archives, which she secured from the estate of the late fashion editor and McQueen muse/champion Isabella Blow.
McQueen tragically took his own life in 2010, three years after Blow had committed suicide. They both suffered from depression. Years before, however, Blow effectively discovered McQueen when she bought the Central Saint Martins student’s entire graduation collection.
“This is fucking church. This is the church of fashion. If you don’t have respect for what Daphne and Steven Klein and I are doing, you don’t have a clue, really,” Gaga humbly stated during the day of the shoot.
“What’s sacred about today is that it’s Daphne and I, two women who loved McQueen very much, and Steven Klein, a man who loved him very much. And it’s a man and a woman who also loved Issie. And another man, McQueen, who loved Issie. And a young girl who never got to meet her but admires and loves her very much. This is about true talents and helping them to be remembered the way they should be.”
