Like Lupita, you too can recreate these 7 hairstyles from J.D Okhai Ojeikere’s photo series

At the world premiere of Marvel’s superhero movie, Black Panther, star actress, Lupita Nyong’o debuted a never-before-seen hairstyle that got a lot of attention.

Her warrior-inspired purple outfit was matched with a narrow bun that sat high and bold atop her head. Although it’s not the first time Lupita would rock a statement hairdo on the red carpet, this one definitely had a twist to it.

Hours after the premiere, Lupita took to Instagram to let her fans in on the magic behind the striking hairdo and to our surprise, it was inspired by something very iconic and deeply Nigerian.

Lupita wrote, “Last night’s hair inspiration: the fulani hairstyles as captured in the photography of Nigeria’s J D Okhai Ojeikere.

Nigeria’s J.D Okhai Ojeikere referenced in the caption was an acclaimed photographer who travelled across the country documenting traditional Nigerian hairstyles and headties across tribes.

Ojeikere who died in 2014 at the age of 83 left behind a black and white hairstyle portfolio over 1000-photo strong.

Now here’s where you come in…

We think if Lupita rocked it, then you can too. So here are 7 hairstyles from Ojeikere’s legendary hairstyle portfolio you can recreate for any event.

We’re in love with the final photo… which one are you considering?
