CLAN, the sister line to Deola Sagoe’s Deola helmed by the uber designer’s daughter Teni Sagoe has released the editorial campaign for its Spring/Summer 16 collection called Tarsus.
Inspired by the historic city of Tarsus in what is now modern day Turkey, the Tarsus collection romanticizes the relationship between Greco-Egyptian femme fatale Cleopatra and Roman General Mark Anthony, highlighting Cleopatra’s intelligence and influence on his life and politics. This allowed her keep Alexandria largely independent of the influence of the Roman empire.
In the words of Teni;
“Tarsus represents a woman’s inner intellect, power and charm, whilst showing an appreciation for, like Cleopatra, the finer things in life.
“Tarsus is hereby an expression of the inner strength and sense of purpose inherent in every woman and it is the recognition of these values that have formed the ideas behind each silhouette, and has been woven into the threads of each garment in the collection.”
The collection’s primary colour is aubergine, the chosen CLAN colour of the season, which represents royalty and wealth. The editorial is shot by ace photographer Lakin Ogunbanwo and is headlined by Zainab Balogun the brand’s current muse. Debola Falana of @dfalanaartistry created the soft wavy curls and fresh faced look that characterizes the collection. All three were responsible for the brand’s Classics 2015 summer look book which was considered as one of the best Nigerian fashion editorials of 2015. Ifeoma Williams and Jennifer Obayuwana of Polo Avenue provided period accurate accessories that help sell the look.
The collection draws strong influences in fit, silhouette and detailing from Deola Sagoe’s Spring ’15 collection which debuted at New York Fashion week but with a younger, more playful spin.
All pieces are available at the brand’s store on Plot 292F Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria
