Seyi and I met on my first day in Medical school in Ukraine in 2007. He was the very first person that walked up to me to say hi when I got to Ukraine. I was in the hallway of the hostel waiting to get my room sorted out when he walked up to me and said ‘hi’ and told me I looked familiar. I was like, ‘oh no, not another ‘look familiar’ story, ‘didn’t I leave all of these back in Nigeria?’. I knew he was just trying to have a conversation, so I held up the conversation and we both talked about our background and where we were from. He helped me move into my room and kept checking on me to ask if I needed anything or assistance getting anything done.

Everyday after school, he helped me with some of the school work I missed because I had resumed late and then we would have lunch and long conversations about everything and anything possible. He had this sort of ‘book warm’ and honesty vibe which challenged me to be better spiritually, morally and academically.

Eventually, he asked me to be his girlfriend which was such an easy decision forme because we already had a good connection and he was definitely someone I knew I could trust and be with for a long time.

We started dating and we did through all of med school.

Like every relationship, we had our ups and downs but both of us willing to do whatever it takes to stay together has definitely helped our relationship each and everyday.

In these past years, he has been my teacher, my pastor, my confidant, my partner in crime, my best friend and above all, my soul mate.

It’s been eight beautiful years and I would choose him a billion times and one if I had to do it over again.

The Proposal;

This was one thing, I didn’t see coming at all.
It was our graduation dinner in June 2013 with all our friends, my mum and grand aunt at the venue.

They called Seyi up to give a speech which didn’t surprise me because he did stuffs like that all the time. I wasn’t even paying attention to what he was saying because I was having a conversation with my friend and I thought it was one of the regular speeches he gave.

All of a sudden I heard people screaming, clapping and coming towards my table. Before I knew it, he was on one knee in front of me and asking me to marry him.

Even though we had been together for 6 years and I knew we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. I was definitely still shocked and caught unawares. I was too shocked to even say anything.

I just sat there with my mouth opened for about 30secs confused and dumbfounded. Eventually I said yes and he put the ring on my finger.

That was the beginning of our forever journey.
