Nigeria’s longest standing exclusive children’s wear label Ruff ‘n’ Tumble is joining many other labels releasing collections around important Nigerian events and what is bigger and more intrinsic to children than the month of March, the month of Mother’s Day celebrations.
The ‘Mum and I’ collection which leans heavily on African inspired Ankara fabric is done in partnership with women’s wear label, Tae, and features four signature dresses in signature prints, that are further replicated in children’s wear pieces. Versatility is one of the more prominent themes in this collection; the adult piece are all wrap dresses with flattering silhouettes, every detail made to ensure the dresses are forgiving to pregnancy gains and fuller figured women. Complementary pieces for boys and girls accompany the wrap dresses to foster a familial bond. The aesthetic is decidedly Western with an ethnic bent, the adult pieces more so.
Collaborations like this will help both labels reach target markets that might have been otherwise closed to them and that excites us. Our only grouse with the collection is that there aren’t nearly enough pieces for adults or children to offer more versatility. Versatility would have given the collection more longevity and/or marketability.
