Be Inspired: 10 things you shouldn’t get for your groom as a gift

gift
The other day, we brought you ideas of your surprise gifts you can get for your groom on the morning of your wedding (HERE).
Well, the truth is, no matter how long you’ve known your boyfriend or husband, shopping for men can be tricky.

And because you would definitely hate the situation where your good intention turns into a waste of money, you have to be extra cautious when buying a present for the man of your life.
So before you go on a quest to find him the perfect gift, remember to avoid these things that men find unappealing, useless or even offensive.
1. Flowers
Men appreciate practical things, things that have functions. Some men think flowers are – just flowers. They don’t make him jump out of his seat, they’re just plants with expiry date on it. Flowers have a different effect on men than it does on women. If you really don’t have anything to give, grabbing a box of chocolate might be a better idea – at least he can indulge his sweet tooth.2. Cheap Perfume
Whether he loves to wear perfume or – even worse – he hates it, leave it at the store. If he loves to wear perfume, he will tend to have very specific preference because the scent is very personal and you shouldn’t downgrade his taste by giving an economic version of the fragrance that usually doesn’t smell as good, leave stain on his shirt or cause an allergic reaction.3. Beginner Tools Set
It is natural to think a man would always love the idea of new tool kit, but if you’re thinking about getting him a basic set of tools, think again. He might already have it in his garage or even take the gesture in an offensive way especially if he’s not much of a handyman.

4. Clothes
Getting him shirts, pants or suit can be difficult because you can be wrong at three possibilities: wrong style, wrong size, and wrong fit. So make sure you know his exact measurement before trying to add something to his wardrobe. It will be worse if you give him underwear because no man wants a woman buying his undies as a gift.

5. Office supplies
It’s just a reminder for him to work and not a very special gift of love. You don’t have to wait for special occasions to give him office supplies. Special occasions needs special and thoughtful gifts that come from the heart.

6. Stuffed Bear and Love Card
A man of your life will never need stuffed bear that says “I Love You” and a card that is pre-written by someone else but you. If you don’t know what to write on a blank card, just write “Happy birthday, I love you,” in your handwritings.

7. Matchy Items
Thinking that a couple with matching shirt is the cutest thing? Think again. It’s so last decade! A mature couple would love and embrace each other’s personality and individuality without having to show the entire world what a compatible match they are.

8. Video Games
You know that he’s been eyeing that game console for a year, but to give him a game as a gift might backfire. Of course he’ll be happy as a kid on Christmas Day but you’ll fall off the charts because he’d rather spend his time playing video games than with you. Now you wouldn’t want that to happen, would you?

9. Gift Certificate
A gift certificate from a local hardware store or a gym membership coupon are easy to get and effortless. So effortless that it translates into a lazy gift that didn’t take much time and thinking process to begin with.

10. Jewelry
Unless he’s crazy about gemstones (because some men are), don’t give him a piece of jewelry. It will only be such a waste of money because they’re not cheap and he isn’t going to wear it anyway.
