Formerly known as Alter Ego, Ego Maduekwe births with its first collection to the label called Unwoven.
According to the designer, the collection was born out of the change the brand has experienced with the name change, being the duality of power and femininity. Her inspiration was gotten from symbols of power in traditional African societies.
This includes the origin of the prints, fabrics and details such as the Hausa “8 knives” embroidery detail used on emir’s robes which was used as a print and the “ukara” symbol print used by The Leopard Society, a West African secret society found in the south east of Nigeria.
Made to fit with a convenient airy feel, some of the designs that characterize this collection are cut outs similar to traditional “ukara” symbols, fringe details, sheer infusion, peplum details.
