A British personal trainer with an amputated leg has become the first male model to ever walk down the runway at New York Fashion Week.

Jack Eyers appeared in the FTL Moda show, which featured models with disabilities from around the world. The show highlighted Italian deisgner Antonio Urzi’s work.
Eyers also works as a spokesperson for Models of Diversity, an fashion agency that promotes diversity on the runway.

The 25-year-old trainer was born with congenital femoral deficiency, a non-hereditary condition which affected the growth of his right leg. Eyers’ leg was amputated when he was 16 because of discomfort.

“To be the first male amputee model on a New York Fashion Week runway feels amazing – it feels like such a big deal. I just want to show that having a disability doesn’t need to hold you back,” he said in a press release before the show. He further said that he wants to inspire other disabled people to appear on the runway.

Several other models with physical deformities also walked down alongside Eyers on the prestigious runway, which is certainly a welcoming sign that New York Fashion Week is open to all kinds of diversity this time around.
