It is ridiculous just how much sugar the average person consumes daily. You start your day with a bowl of cereal and pop some cubes in that, or a cup of tea or coffee with a couple of cubes in. This is followed by a snack, and maybe a bottle or two of soft drinks to go along with that. We all know how bad sugar is for us, but we somehow convince ourselves that we do not consume large enough amounts to do any serious damage.
Cutting out sugar completely from your diet is almost impossible, if you go through the nutrition information at the back of every single thing you eat, the odds are that there is sugar in 80% of it. There is also sugar in non processed foods, like fruits but that kind of sugar is harmless unlike the processed sugars.
Last week I decided to try and cut out sugar from my diet, which for me is a big deal because I have a terrible sweet tooth. I had tried in the previous weeks to slowly wean myself off sugar, but that didn’t work so I decided to go completely cold turkey. I cut out soft drinks, sweets, biscuits, chocolates and anything you can imagine fuels a sweet tooth’s addiction.
The results were frankly surprising.
I felt the need to drink more water, and I ate more fruits to get my regular sugar fix instead of reaching for a chocolate bar and my skin looked clearer than ever. It’s been just two weeks and it’s quite a struggle avoiding sugars but one thing I’m sure of is that I’ve never felt better.
