As part of the build up to the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 showcase, the organization has announced as their brand ambassador for this year’s cycle, critically acclaimed singer Yemi Alade. This was made known over the last week with an editorial that saw Alade model some very eccentric looks. Yemi Alade will serve as brand ambassador for both Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and Africa Fashion Week London.
From the word go, our mantra was to discover young new exciting brands by providing a platform to build and promote them to an international standard.
Africa Fashion Week Nigeria promotes the beauty of Africa, from the creative side of fashion to the business of it.
Known to the world as Mama Africa, the incredible and talented singer known to us as Yemi Alade, is our 2016 AFWN & AFWL brand ambassador.
This collaboration makes a lot more sense than last year’s ambassador, Oreka Godis. While the radio presenter and sometime actress might have had clout in social media circles, she definitely did not possess the pan-African appeal that Yemi Alade enjoys, especially with the success of her music and her recently released Mama Africa album.
Making her ambassador for a pan-African event like the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is beneficial to Alade’s image and serves as a sort of endorsement. A.F.W.N gets to bank on Alade’s image for promotional material and expect her presence to draw attention in circles that would have otherwise ignored the event.
There is also the access that Africa Fashion Week London will give to Yemi Alade, connecting to a network of pan-African designers in the diaspora, a necessity for a singer whose career has soared on the fact that she is almost defiantly Nigerian. Access like that will prove valuable in the long run.

With Mama Africa on board, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria should be lit.
