Thanks to Kemi Adetiba, sexy, beauty and self-love will never mean the same to us.
If you thought you had to fit into society’s standards of beauty, then here’s some motivation for you. Acclaimed movie and music video director, Kemi Adetiba is interpreting beauty and sexy in her own words and by her own terms and she has shared it on Instagram for everyone of us who may be struggling with insecurities, acceptance and self esteem.
Adetiba wrote, “I’ve never been that overtly sexy girl. I’m the clumsy sweats and sneakers girl who loves basketball, listens to hip-hop music, and laughs like a drunk Irish man in a bar. It doesn’t help that my 38th is in less than 2 months and tolling like a loud gong 😩
Don’t get me wrong, I can clean up real good… Like REAL GOOD 😌 but I’m always going to come off “sweet SEXY” not “jalapeño-seductress SEXY“.
Errrr! But we really like the sound of jalapeño-seductress SEXY…
She went on to liken her unique type of sexy to that of Gabrielle Union and Tracee Ellis Ross, in contrast with smoking hot Ashanti and Sofia Vergara.
Now let’s put that in context:
Kemi Adetiba went on to point out how she finally came to terms with her looks. She wrote, “God put in my spirit, did your beauty or lack thereof get you to where you are today? No. If you lost even the one you had right now, could it stop you from achieving your goals? No. Would you rather have that instead and I take all the other insanely wonderful things about you, one can’t quantify… Oh HELL NAW!!! Then why make an attribute so inconsequential shape your self esteem for the day?”
And therein lies the lesson for the rest of us. We’ll go about the rest of our lives embracing every talent, gift and of course, physical features.
