W Magazine’s May 2016 might be one of the most diverse this year and we’re loving all of it.
Photographed by highly acclaimed international model Steven Klein, W Magazine’s fashion editorial sees African models Maria Borges, Aamito Lagum and Amilna Estevao front a campaign that mirrors the 70’s disco movement in pieces from Gucci, Dior, Vetements and many other designers. Others involved in the editorial include Tami Williams, Ysaunny Brito, Alecia Morais, Katie Moore, Irina Shayk, and Kayla Scott. The shoot references the Black Panther and blaxploitation movements of decades past, the advent of the disco age and the fashion of the period which is making a comeback now.
It is great to see Estevao, Lagum and Borges front campaigns, especially as we have seen all three reach stratospheric heights in the modelling industry in the last two years, with Estevao scoring campaigns for Tom Ford, Borges walking at the coveted Victoria Secret fashion show and Lagum bounce back from racial slurs on Instagram after a stellar week at the Paris Fashion Week. To see them all, decked out in gorgeous fur gives us more joy than you can imagine.
If these photos aren’t the ultimate squad goals, we don’t know what else is.
Slay girls, slay!
