The Nigerian Student Fashion And Design Week (NSFDW) is the only scale incubator showcase for student designers in Nigeria (there are others, but those showcases are restricted to certain universities and their students). As the only nationwide student exclusive showcase, a lot of interesting talent ends up there. This year seemed shaky for the showcase but things have taken a turn for the better, and brought with it a new sponsor.
The organizers just announced that Wema Bank Nigeria will serve as a leading sponsor. The sponsorship deal was eventually sealed on the 28th of July at the Wema Bank headquarters in Lagos. This is huge, considering financial institutions rarely show their heft in fashion related events. For Wema Bank to sponsor a student run fashion showcase without the exposure and clout of the bigger, more established fashion weeks is a big deal.
The Bank will also be rewarding the most creative Designer of the Nigerian Student Fashion And Design Week with startup funds and SME packages for the other participants.
In even more interesting news, the guest judges for the showcase have been announced. Noble Igwe of Style Vitae, Kunbi Oyelese of April by Kunbi, Onah Nwachukwu of Complete Fashion, Ejiro Amos Tafiri and Ronke Ademiluyi of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria will all oversee the showcases and decide which designer wins the grants offered by Wema Bank.
The event is scheduled to hold on the 12th and 13th of August at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos, Akoka by 4pm each day with Red carpet by 3pm and it is expected to showcase 30 designers to an audience of over 2000 people.
Tickets are sold for N500 for students, N1000 for Regulars and N5000 for VIPs, they will be available for sales at the venue.
