The Nigerian fashion industry is saturated with boutique brands with incredibly high mark ups and aspirations to one day pass as luxury or premium brands. This creates a serious disconnect between them and the buyers they are trying to court, and no one wins. We at the Other Style are strong advocates for mid-range high street brands with accessible prices and good quality. We are particularly interested in brands offering innovations on much loved wardrobe staples. And 87 Origins seems to have come to answer all our prayers. The emerging high street brand has just released it’s very first editorial campaign for its debut collection. It explains it’s motivations as thus:
We want make modern & sophisticated garments accessible to everyone who enjoys wearing stunning clothes as much as we love creating them. We want to put the excitement back into your wardrobe, we care about what we do, but always strive to do better. Our products are detail driven wardrobe stables that will make getting dressed an effortless process.
The clothes are really great, especially its women’s wear pieces. That camel trench coat is to die for, and its grey trenches and shawl jackets are just as beautiful. The fact that 87 Origins clothes are seasonless and done mostly in neutral add even more to it’s appeal. This could easily become Nigeria’s answer to The Row, a collection that offers well made every day staples that you can then pair with your high/end fantasy buys.
87 Origins has us so excited. We really, really hope they don’t disappoint.
