The Naira is currently at about 280 to a dollar, and still on a steady decline.
For us shopaholics (well the ones without a trust fund,) these numbers are worse than getting the plague or being struck by lightning because it means we can’t shop as much as we want. Thankfully I’ve found a fix for addicts (apart from forming a support group) – buy Nigeria!
I know we all love our Mac and Revlon products, but they are hurting our wallets. Buying Nigeria is not only cheaper for you, but a lot of the products are actually pretty great. So I have done a quick run-down of my favourite beauty lines, made with love from Nigeria, which are affordable(to some extent) and absolutely amazing.
- BMPro
Banke-Meshida Lawal, started producing her own line in 2006, with just about 14 products. Today she has over 60 products distributed across Nigeria and several other countries. You can shop her products here
- House of Tara
Founded by Tara Fela-Durotoye, House of Tara is pretty much a household name in Nigeria, she’s one of the pioneer bridal makeup artists and most newbies are looking to be the next Tara. Most of her products have Nigerian names like Arewa or Orekelewa which I think is absolutely brilliant. My favourite Tara beauty products are her eyebrow pencil and eye shadows because of how long lasting they are. Her lipsticks on the other hand, didn’t quite cut it for me. - Zaron Cosmetics
Launched in 2011, Zaron quickly gained popularity due to their brilliant marketing strategies. This was followed by products with quality. They are affordable and worth the money spent on them. But their products won’t be the first thing I pickup when makeup shopping. You can shop for their products here
