Africa Fashion Week Nigeria just added fashion panels to its upcoming showcase

Since the Lagos Fashion and Design Week introduced its business series and Fashion Focus programme in 2012, organizers of Fashion Week showcases have taken the initiative and run with it. This has been especially important in a country like ours with an unstructured fashion industry as both formal and informal training is invaluable to emerging and established industry practitioners.

Ronke Ademiluyi’s Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 has announced that as part of this year’s AFWN showcase, it is introducing  panel discussions.

The organizers of the showcase want to convert the platform from a mere showcase to a proper self perpetuating community. They plan on opening a fashion hub in the country (the details of that are somewhat sketchy), and host student workshops and panels that teach how to transform Nigeria into a fashion production behemoth. With fifty designers slated for five catwalk showcases (last year, the show only had four) the platform is bigger and designers are finally starting to take notice.

As a social enterprise. Africa Fashion Week Nigeria‘s Fashion Week helps promote Nigerian brands through worldwide visibility. By adding manufacturing and distribution solutions to it’s portfolio, it is finally tackling the crippling problems that hinder clothes from going straight to closets from the runway. Its new mentorship and education platforms will prove invaluable in helping them reach those goals.

The core mission of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is empowerment through fashion, to create jobs through fashion, to support education in fashion and develop skills training and capacity development in the fashion industry.

To see fashion in Nigeria grow and be recognized as a multi-million pound industry as it is in the UK, We hope that it contributes to GDP like in the UK where fashion is a million pond industry.

The core aim of the fashion week is to provide platforms for new/emerging talent, who would otherwise not have the means to gather attention and awareness on their own.
