African Fashion Week Nigeria 2016, officially kicked off on Saturday the 25th of June, with the “Street Catwalk in the Mall” at the Palms Shopping Mall in Lekki, and we popped in because well that’s sort of our job.
While we were expecting a part of the mall to be roped off for some sort of mock mini fashion show to give us a taste of what to expect on the 2nd and 3rd of July, when the main show will hold at Eko Hotel and Suites, we got an even better experience.
About half a dozen (we wish they had gotten more) stunning models clad in clothes made from Da Viva fabric, and holding Cantu hair products were made to stand perfectly still right in the middle of the mall, not even moving an inch amidst the growing number of people stopping to gape at them, and even when a number of bold ones walked up to them for selfies.
We have to give it to the AFWN 2016 team for putting together a quite and innovative start to their fashion week. We can’t wait to see how the rest of it will go.
