Before we get to discussing the actual collection, permit us to say we are beyond pleased to see the dream team of Queen Onyemaechi of Ford Models, Tosin Ogundadegbe of the Style Infidel and ace fashion photographer, Aham Ibeleme all reunited for this project. We have spoken at length about how magic is created whenever Ogundadegbe gets to collaborate with one of his muses and this editorial for Design For Love is top notch brilliance.
The new Design For Love Spring 16 collection is interesting on many fronts. The label takes on African inspired print wax, much reviled in many circles and manages somehow to work it into clothes that we not only like, but are almost tempted to covet.
Taking cue from Italian designer Stella Jean, the collection works with the most abstract, least popular prints for an almost neutral effect. There is a definite party girl element in the collection used in subtle ways; sequinned ankle socks, worn with work pumps, asymmetric blouses, skirts with paneled flaps, capri style pants.
As a contrast to the busy prints, are demure sheer blouses, lace shorts and asymmetric lace panels. The contrasts are complementary in the hands of the Design for Love team, and this collection finally proves the brand is ready to play in the big leagues.
