Hurray! It’s the big 30 for the Gozel Green sisters

Happy birthday to Sylvia and Olivia Enekwe, brains behind Nigeria’s premium alt-womenswear label Gozel Green.

Coming to the limelight after being chosen for the 2014 Lagos Fashion and Design Week’s Fashion Focus programme, the sisters have quickly transformed their label from fledgling to a fully established label nominated for awards in and out of the country. Gozel Green has been chosen to represent Nigeria in international showcases like the International Fashion Showcase in London and the recently opened Fashion Cities Africa showcase.

For those not in the know, Gozel Green recently released a very first looks at their Fall 2016 collection, just a day before they turn 30, joining the ranks of fabulous designers like the Olsen Twins who have distinguished with their brand, The Row. What could be a better birthday present than that?

The new collection builds on the aesthetic that Sylvia and Olivia have carefully crafted, a sensual woman who takes elements of menswear and androgyny and wears them with a decidedly feminine twist. The label’s distinctive applique designs and unconventional hems are replicated here too. The aesthetic however moves sharply away from the far more feminine themes of their first two collections and builds on the more utilitarian aesthetic of Marching To Kilimanjaro, their Spring 16 collection. We can’t wait to see the full thing.
