Temporary tattoos became a huge, HUGE trend last year, pushed in part by the growing festival culture. Glamorous silver and gold temporary tattoos (they work just like those temp tattoos kids get but last much longer,) have popped up on everyone from Angela Simmons to Vanessa Hudgens and continue to gain popularity. Gaining popularity as well is some good ol’ afrocentric love and celebration.
The good folks at African Print In Fashion decided to put these two faves together and create their very own brand of temporary African tattoos, that celebrate and reference popular African symbols. The owner of APIF, Ms K tells her motivations for joining the temp tatt industry, we’ve found some of her quotes.
I really dig temporary tattoos. They are a great way to embellish your body and add a stylish highlight without leaving a permanent image on your skin. As I didn’t find any Africa-inspired temporary tatts, I decided to create my own ones!
APIF offers four select African tattoos images. Taking from Ghanaian cosmology, there are the Sankofa and Gye Nyame Adinkra symbols which celebrate the importance of history and the supremacy of a supreme deity. There is also an Africa symbol with the word Afropolitan tacked on. Pretty sweet if you ask us.
The tattoo packs retail for about $18 dollars, which is pretty decent as a permanent tattoo done well will wreck in the several thousands. To shop, go here.
