Nigerian designer Toju Foyeh is trying out a new tack with her to be released collection, inspired by South African media personality Bonang Matheba. Matheba flew into the country a few weeks ago to partner with the designer and front the editorial campaign for the collection. The first images we’ve seen of the collection feature the label’s usual highly embellished lace and sheer styles and bedazzled jumpsuits.
The editorial was shot by Nigerian fashion photographer Obi Somto at the Lekki Conservation centre. This teaser is great but now we have so many questions.
Is this the first stage of Foyeh’s move to enter the South African market? Is this collection merely a creative collaboration or will it be mass produced? How many pieces will the collection have and what exactly is it about Bonang Matheba that serves as a touch stone for the collection (because her entire design trajectory can largely be attributed to Gert-Johan Coetzee)?
I guess we’ll just have to wait for the actual editorial.
