Emerging women’s wear label, Fabulous by Teju Pretty’s Spring 16 lookbook’s main pitch is that it has former Big Brother housemate Beverly Osu as it’s campaign face.
This is an interesting premise on which to introduce a label of which nothing is known and we wonder what the marketing strategy behind this is.
While there are many interesting pieces in the collection it is near impossible to discern what the label is about from this one collection. Each piece in this collection is a literal experiment, exploring vastly different silhouettes and using different fabric. Some of the pieces are impressive construction wise, and Teju Pretty seems to have a gift for constructing simple but visually appealing evening wear pieces as evinced by her gold lamé evening dress.
The rest of the collection is not as thought through; they add a single menswear look that throws the rest of the collection, experiment with a tulle train on a dress that ends up making the entire thing look cheap. Then there are the jackets and the satin dress. The jackets are bulky and ill-fitting on the model, the one time that the pieces are supposed to look tailored and the editorial has full control to present the clothes in the best possible light. The satin dresses, are just flat out bad, from the choice of inferior upholstery satin, to the shoddy tailoring, it is hard to take in.
The Fabulousity collection feels rushed and badly curated. It might be time to return to the drawing board and decide what the label wants to be known for.
