5 Mistakes To Avoid When Applying Your Foundation

By now, most of us can easily apply our foundation with our eyes closed… but have we been doing it all wrong? It’s time to go back to beauty school, foundation class 101.

  • Put your hands up if you ignore the ‘shake before use’ instruction on our foundation bottle. 🙋

One beauty lover confirmed: “I have the Fenty foundation and I love it. It says to shake before use on the bottle. One morning I was running late and didn’t shake it too much, looked in the car mirror later that day ( the mirror of truth am I right?) and was horrified. I was orange! But I wore Fenty so many times so I knew it wasn’t right. The next day I shook the hell out of it and checked again, no Oompa Loompa for me!”

  • The next mistake according to Beyonce’s makeup artist is dry face foundation.

In an interview with Popsugar, Sir John revealed that you should NOT wait for your moisturiser or base to set in before applying your foundation: “Take a wet Beautyblender and while your skin is damp from your moisturiser apply your foundation.”

  • Full face foundation? Who are you fooling?🤔

Sir John goes on to explain that you don’t really need to apply foundation on your entire face, only apply it only in the areas that need coverage.

  • Oh those testing faux pas

It is very common to see ladies at beauty stalls testing for their colour match on the back of their hand or wrist. Well, beauticians say you will never get the ideal tone. The best place to test the foundation is on your jawline, underneath your eyes and around the nose to find a match.

Or product lines like Lancome have a colour checker gadget they just hold up to your face. Within minutes, your skin tone is matched to foundations and this saves you testing so many on your skin.

Here, more and more experts are advising to use. To avoid this oxidation, a primer should be applied to act as a barrier, this will stop your foundation separating and changing colour throughout the cause of the day especially in this hot weather.
