Ghanaian celebrity stylist Ebenezer Harrison is following in the footsteps of ace stylists Tokyo James and Bubu Ogisi and floating his own fashion line. The line called EZER (punny, right) just released images for its debut collection aptly titled ‘Debutante’.
Harrison’s red carpet sensibilities come to the fore in the creation of this collection. He releases a number of classical evening wear styles in print, white and black, favouring daring necklines and full pleated skirts that drape beautifully into puddles of fabric around the model.
But he also dabbles in clothing for a younger crowd, putting out satin tube-style jumpsuits and dresses, and peekaboo sleeveless crop blouses with lace detailing. Lace isn’t the only material that Ezer taps for his new collection, he also celebrates his Ghanaian origins by exploring vibrant batik prints, favoring abstraction over easily discernible motifs. He also uses lycra for fit and chiffon for flounce in some of his more expressive pieces. The overall result is collection that while can seem a little maudlin sometimes is perfectly wearable and safe for the celebrities that Harrison usually dresses. Sometimes safe is not necessarily a bad thing.
Harrison hopes to turn this niche brand into a fashion must-have across Africa, and while he must have to actually design something original at some point to truly gain the admiration and respect of the much wider buying public, he has already figured out the hard part, manufacturing clothing that look good, fit well and speak volumes with it’s tailoring.
