Sisiano Paolo’s eponymous brand has just released the campaign images for the collection it debuted at the 2015 Lagos Fashion and Design Week. Birds at War tightens the brand’s aesthetic over the last three years; the extravagant layers of draping are replaced with a sleeker silhouette and the sheers are shed for regular old jersey. There is also a distinct lack of pattern or print in this collection, a direction the brand took in Spring 2015 with its Ms. Green – Lipstick Smudge collection.
The collection colour counter point is a lemony yellow, the centre piece of a display of neutrals. There is also the running design quirk of cut-outs, a Sisiano design favourite, this time interpreted as geometric panels slashed at intervals by thin bands of fabric. It is a mimicry of cages, and speaks to the collection theme, as much as the bared midriffs and high slit thighs modeled by Sisiano’s long time muses Stefania Bassey and Melissa Devidal.
‘Birds At War’ marries signature Sisiano draping with cuts that will breathe off a runway and fit right into a modern woman’s wardrobe.
