Good news for those who despaired that Ituen Basi didn’t show at the 2015 Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week. The brand recently announced a concessionary deal with new fashion retailer Mei Dei. The concessionary means that new Ituen Basi collections will be available at the store as well as branded merchandise including this adorable tote bag, and commemorative scarves that celebrate the label’s most critically acclaimed collections.
This is Ituen Basi’s third concessionary deal, the first with high street retailer Grey Velvet and then with luxury retailer Temple Muse.
In December, Ituen Basi teased a holiday collection exclusive to the Mei Dei concessionary in Lekki Phase one. She reworked her now iconic Oleku silhouette, embossing her iro and buba with Chevron shaped paillettes. There are also exquisite sequinned blouses with an argyle motif. This is the first time we see a Nigerian designer use Paillettes this extensively and Basi not only makes it work, she impresses. We can only hope that she expands on this design idea and gives us a proper collection in 2016.
The store is also dabbling properly in branded and licensed merchandise, starting with sloganed tote bags that celebrate the brand and Lagos, its place of birth.
