Remember Abdullahi Olatoyan? The dapper windscreen washer who got ‘papped’ ala Olajumoke Orisaguna and started a craze on Instagram that got him featured on CNN, and signed on to work for Uche Nnaji’s Ouch (doing what, we’re not quite sure.) Well, it wasn’t enough that he finally has a better job, the good people at LaMode magazine decided to take it one step further and make a ‘star’ out of him by giving him his very own editorial in the new edition of their magazine.
Yup, if that sounds very gimmicky, it’s because it is. Olajumoke Orisaguna landing a photo shoot made sense because she was being marketed to us as an unconventional model, and what models do is headline campaigns and pose for photo shoots. Olatoyan shot to fame for simply being well dressed. So we’re not quite sure what this photoshoot is supposed to do for him or us.
But honestly, the real reason we’re angry is because the photoshoot is quite frankly mediocre as hell. If you’re going to try to milk an accidental Internet celebrity’s fame, the least you can do is give us a standard editorial. This one is just pitiful.
