Africa is the new ring for foreign owned textile manufacturers, with Vlisco, DaViva and Woodin all duking it out, opening stores across Africa, launching expansive editorial campaigns and collaborating with designers on exclusive prints in a bid to capture that all exclusive African print market. New comer to the race, Veba Textiles is throwing its hat into the ring and stepping up it’s game since it debuted July 2015 in Nigeria at the African Fashion Week Nigeria with a new fashion editorial for its new line of prints, just in time for AFWN 2016.
The collection which is themed Cosmos was inspired by the Universe. Just as the universe transmits cosmic power and constant motion, the new collection has radiant colours in provocative combinations and dashing designs with a touch of exoticism and extravagance. The Cosmos collection is from the Micro range which is beauty veiled in mystery. This is because the fabrics have tiny rounded and squared designs hidden in giant bold shapes.
We have to say, the tailoring on this Veba collection is nowhere near as crisp as Vlisco’s stellar work, but the prints are definitely vibrant, and the lean towards geometry works well with it’s celestial themes
Cosmos will be on showcase at the 2016 African Fashion Week Nigeria from the 1st of July to the 3rd of July 2016 when Ayaba, a Nigerian women’s wear designer, takes the runway with fabulous designs created with the collection at the 7pm show.
