So we came across Nathan Cole Garms (garms is obvs short for garments) and we’re quite fascinated by their debut capsule collection. Party because the label has chosen to tow the path good percentage of emerging menswear brands eventually tow (start as a bespoke menswear label making classic suits with a ‘twist’, fight for a market, find there is little to none that isn’t already cornered, shift to ready to wear or avant garde).
The brand’s creative director Badesere Aboyade-Cole, even has the fancy word work down to a science. Here he is speaking on Enigma.
“There is a sophisticated mystery about the man who loves to wear Nathan Cole Garms. He is idiosyncratic, he is adventurous, eclectic, free spirited, polished, and strongly believes in the essence, power and beauty of paradox”.
Only problem is, while the collection is good to look at, the suits are well tailored, and Cole has the guided idea to pin down the errant lapels of his cowl vest with buttons, the press statement is utterly at odds with the Nathan Cole man he shows us. Free spirited men don’t wear suits sadly.
It will be interesting to watch what he does with a full length collection. We’ll be here, pen in hand.
